Civil War
The Chinese Civil War saw battles from the beginning of 1927 all the way to 1950. The war was waged against two political parties, the Chinese Communists (CPC) who were led by Mao Zedong and the Chinese Nationalists who were led by Chiang Kai-shek . Some areas of the country were controlled by warlords. The Kuomintang and the CPC united for a time. They wanted to unify China. They both received help from the Soviet Union. Although at certain moments in time they seemed to unite together as one, they continued to have an internal rivalry between eachother. Hostilities had always raged upon one another, and finally there was an ideal split, concluding in a civil war between the parties. The war raged on as peasants led by the Nationalists were trying to bring uprising against the CPC. World War II was now on the verge and in 1937, things came to a halt for the civil war. As Japan closed in on China for domination, Chiang was reluctant on joining with the CPC to eliminate Japan. His main goal was to wipe them out first. Mixed feelings and planning led to them coming together to find a truce for the time being to fight Japan. 1937 is when the Sino-Japanese War broke out, which led to killings and raping such as the Rape of Nanking.
